Yun Jin Oh

My best friend just died in Colorado from a car accident.

December 18, 1981-July 13, 2007

I was going to put a alittle excerpt in here about her, but I'm just speechless and weak, that I don't know what to put.  Her life was straight as an arrow and led the most God centered life imaginable.

Why am I so angry?  For those who know me, I'm a very peaceful man who knows nothing of violence even though I'm in the US Army.  However, when I heard the news today, for the first time in my life, I was tempted to throw my laptop, kick a crater into the wall, and even just go AWOL from Iraq to make it to the funeral.  Felt weird, don't know if it's normal, but never felt this before.  The heat in Iraq doesn't help either.

1 grandfather (old age), 1 friend (car accident), 2 Soldiers (Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device), and 1 mentor (cancer) passed from this Earth in the last month.  God bless their souls as I maintain the focus for my mission and for my Soldiers in Iraq.  Pretty tempted to just stop caring.

Whether the middle of briefings or while I'm writing reports or in the middle of utilizing the latrine, or writing a postcard to a friend...my tears are getting everything wet...can't control my breathing, can't control my thinking, lost control of myself.

war

I'm taking classes that study the cause and the future of WAR.

1)Agression and violence = human instinct

2)$$

These two seem to be the most popular causes for war.  Umm...why can't they believe that there are only two ways to reach world peace.  (Strictly my theories)

1) Follow Christ' example and obey

2)Intergalactic warfare where the Earth is against another alien civilization....hehe, yeah.

 Newport, Rhode Island

Probably one of the best times of my life was this trip...Newport, Rhode Island.

sad

One of my friends and mentor...who was my only friend for a while in Fort Lewis along with the other guy who just died, died of cancer.  The picture I received from his family was one of the saddest yet one of the most inspiring pictures I have ever seen.  I would post it, but not appropriate...this one hit me hard.

Weight loss

This morning, I took my Army Physical Fitness Test.  I also got my height and my weight.

Pushups: 75 in 2 minutes

Situps:  80 in 2 minutes

2 mile Run: 16:15 minutes (so slow!!)

I passed everything with flying colors, but 16:15 is 3 seconds slower than what I got last time.  This is why it bothers me.

Last time was 3 months ago at 220 lbs, this time I ran it as 189 lbs.  I lost 31 lbs in 3 months and got slower.  Something in the air?  Either way, I haven't weighed this little since the Air Force Academy and it finally feels great!

Soldier's Angels

I have a sponsor from North Carolina and this is what she wrote:

" I felt like I was doing that through the anysoldier.com, but I did feel (and here is the fate thing) that I had something else I was supposed to be doing.  I felt that there was just one person whose life I was supposed to be involved in, and who (selfishly, I admit) was supposed to be involved in mine in some way.  If just to educate me in different thoughts and ideals, or whatever it was.  Kind of a "let go and let God" kind of thing, if you know what I mean.  So, I started researching different ways of finding that right way.  You know, there are a bunch of different things out there, which I'd never known.  I could send books, or food drives.  I could help with causes at home that mattered to certain soldiers (or marines, I guess).  But, once I saw soldiersangels, I just had a feeling that I needed to be there.  And, that's how I found you.  When the mentor called me to tell me that I'd been approved (I guess they don't take everyone), and she matched me with you, I just had a sense of peace.  I don't know where this journey will take me, or you, or our families, but I know that my life is already a better place because I've opened a spot to have you and your thoughts in it.  I don't have a predetermined idea in mind when I started writing to you, and maybe that's why my writings are so rambling, but I just feel that you and I will "talk" about whatever is needed to be discussed."

It kind of sounds weird , I guess, but our friendship was meant to be in mysterious ways so far.  It's freaky how many coincidences happened between me and her in just our email conversations!!  This is going to be an enjoyable adventure.  Some things were meant to be and our conversation is clicking like crazy.  Wondering what God wants me to see.

Crystal Mountain, WA

My friend from San Francisco drove up to see me for New Years my first time in Washington.  We just went to the mountains and boarded like a champ.  We both didn't care if we died, just went for the adventure of our lives.  Now, he's about to get married...booo!!!
